Apple will host a free Stereophonics gig at its Regent Street store tonight - and has introduced a special London iTunes Essentials section to celebrate the event.

The Stereophonics appear tonight at 8pm to a limited audience - Apple advises arriving early for the event. You can take a look at Stereophonics bassist Richard Jones' iPod playlist here.

The live session will be made available across all the international iTunes stores "on the week of iTunes' second birthday on April 28," sources told Macworld.

This week's additions

Along with an exclusive world premiere of new White Stripes single, Blue Orchid, iPod and iTunes users this week also benefit from a free single of the week from Caribou.

Caribou is a Canadian 'electronic guru'. His new song, 'Barnowl' is described as echoing infulences as diverse as "Krautrock" to the avant garde acts of today.

Other noteworthy additions to iTunes this week include: James Blunt; Aimee Mann; Razorlight; the London Symphony Orchestra, The Audio Bullys; Martha Wainwright; Jah Wobble; Michael Franti and Spearhead; and Patsy Kline.

The end-to-end effect of Apple's impact on the music industry continues to reverberate.
