Apple technologies drove a recent US movie-making event, Campus MovieFest - and the event will debut in the UK later this year.

Campus MovieFest took place at, and with help from, the University of California at Berkeley Mac User Group. It attracted over 1,200 Berkeley students who created their own short movies in just one week.

The event is spreading to reach over 30,000 students across the US and UK this year, the organizers said.

Campus MovieFest provided the Apple laptops and digital camcorders, plus training and support, to over 100 teams, while independent musicians provided students with a library of music to use as their soundtracks. Students also created their own music.

Winning teams took home over $12,000 in prizes which included Virgin mobile phones, plane tickets, iPods, and more.
