Telewest Communications - Britain's second largest cable company has bought the Cable London £428 million.

Cable London previously part-owned Cable London with NTL, whose stake it paid for yesterday. NTL sold to ease its debt worries following its £ 8.2 billion purchase of the cable assets of Cable and Wireless Communications.

An NTL company spokesman claimed the company was "happy" to sell its stake in Cable London.

The Cable London network covers the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Hackney and Enfield. Following the acquisition, Telewest can now reach 6.1 million British homes.
