The Linux space game Terminus from Vicarious Visions has reached ‘gold’, reports say, meaning the final version should ship in mid-June. The reports stem from a message posted to the Station Terminus fansite by Vicarious Visions CEO Karthik Bala.

Terminus is a compelling space-combat sim, and is the first cross-platform game ever developed on Linux. The game comes on three CDs containing Windows, Linux and Mac versions in the same box.

The game has taken three-and-a-half years to develop and supports a complex and persistent economic and political model with true Newtonian physics.

This means Terminus offers ultra-realistic space combat, both solo and over a network. Terminus can support up to 32 players over the Internet, and up to eight over a network. It features advanced artificial intelligence that can control characters which can express human emotions.
