Toshiba is installing Napster's online music service on certain of its laptop computers.

The deal mirrors a similar arrangement between Apple and HP, whereby Apple's iTunes Music Store is carried on HP consumer machines.

Napster is to give a one-month free trial of its subscription service with every new Toshiba Satellite-brand notebook.

Napster launched its service in the UK last month. Its subscription service costs £9.99 a month. In the US the same service costs $9.95. Macworld is awaiting confirmation of Toshiba and Napster's plans for the UK.

According to an Associated Press report, Toshiba said it chose the Napster service because it allows users to download an unlimited amount of music and because the songs can be played while online or offline.
