Native Instruments has released Traktor DJ Studio 3.1, a free update for its digital DJ software.

The new version offers several improvements, including setting a comprehensive "undo" function for playlists, as well as lockable playlists. The user interface has also been further improved and refined, offering increased overview and more customisability.

A Universal version of the application (offering native compatibility with Intel Macs) will be introduced in a separate update, scheduled for release at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2006.

Despite the lack of a Universal version, the company promises performance improvements of up to 30 per cent when running Traktor DJ Studio on an Intel Mac. The software also allows users to operate multiple simultaneous decks with high-quality time-stretching and effects, even on less powerful Macs.

The software update is available now as a free download for registered users. It costs €99.
