Apple today confirmed that the new special edition U2 iPod will go on sale in the UK on November 20.
Launching Apple's new London store, senior vice president of retail Ron Johnson, said: "The new U2 iPod will be available in-store when we open on Saturday".
He also said that as of today new stocks of iPod, including the new iPod photo, are being despatched to Apple resellers across the UK.
Johnson refused to be drawn on how much stock the company anticipates having on-hand, saying: "We'll do our darndest to be in stock for people; we hope we have enough stock, at least for the beginning of the day."
The new 20GB U2 iPod is part of a broad alliance between Apple and U2 that relates to iTunes and iPod. The company describes the product as: "Part of a partnership between Apple, U2 and Universal Music Group (UMG) to create innovative new products together for the new digital music era."
U2 lead singer, Bono, has called digital music: "The most interesting artistic creation in pop since the electric guitar".
The 20GB U2 iPod is in a black enclosure with a red Click Wheel and custom engraving of U2 band member signatures.
It costs £249 (including VAT) and ships with earbud headphones, 1.2m 30-pin to FireWire cable, a 1.2m 30-pin to USB cable, and a CD with iTunes 4.7 for Mac and Windows computers. Optional accessories include the iPod Dock for £29 (including VAT) and in-ear headphones for £29 (including VAT).
Customers also receive a £40 discount against the £140 cost of the new Apple/U2 “Digital Box Set.” The first digital box set, “The Complete U2,” will contain over 400 tracks including all of the band’s albums and over 25 rare and unreleased tracks.
