Birmingham International Airport (BIA) has become the first UK airport to provide WiFi Internet access.

Any AirPort-enabled laptop, or other 802.11b wireless device, can use the service, which is available in Terminal 2. Passengers can access the Internet at any location or time within the terminal.

The new facility is operated by UK Explorer.

BIA's head of market development Ray Savage said: "We've embarked on this venture to give our customers greater choice and flexibility. Wi-Fi will appeal to business travellers, which is why we have installed our first transmitter in this largely business-passenger terminal.”

Passengers can purchase WiFi access for 30 minutes, or for a single hour, day, week or month.
