The UK has been declared to be Western Europe's most digital market, according to fresh research from Informa Telecoms And Media.

Informa publishes a 'Converging Media (CM) Index' every quarter. As of the end of 2005, the UK has achieved an index rating of 30.5 - that's way ahead of the now second-ranked market, Finland, which has an index figure of 23.1, the researchers claim.

"The UK is by far Western Europe's most digital market and its surprising number-one ranking is due to the huge take-up of digital television, the sector now boasts a base of almost 17 million users," said Steve Mullins, editor of Informa Telecoms & Media's research service Converging Media.

Italy, although ranked third, has Western Europe's leading mobile-broadband sector, with close to ten million subscribers.
