While major record labels may remain uncertain of their strategy for online music, UK independent labels are embracing change with news of an alliance between them and Yahoo!

The Association of Independant Music (AIM) inked a deal with Yahoo! this week that means repertoire from UK independents is being licensed to Yahoo!'s Internet radio service, LAUNCHcast, in the US, Canada and the UK.

AIM chairman and CEO Alison Wenham said: "This deal empowers Yahoo! to offer some of the world's most cutting-edge and exciting music over its innovative LAUNCHcast service, offering fans on both sides of the Atlantic a brilliant way of finding out more about the music they love."

Independent music is strong in the UK, accounting for 25 per cent of the market.

Sadly, Yahoo's music service is incompatible with Mac OS X, though it does support OS 8.5 or higher. It also requires Windows Media Player.
