Internet failure struck the UK yesterday as two of the major cables connecting the country to the US had problems.

Users experienced access problems yesterday afternoon and early evening, reported Linx. The problem afflicted customers of a number of ISPs, who experienced slow email and Web browsing and even no connectivity at all.

Linx is the London Internet Exchange, which operates as the largest Internet exchange point outside the US. 30GB per second of data transfers go through its system.

The company said the attacks were due to cable failure.
