UK podcasters now have two ways they can legitimately license music for podcasting, thanks to the MCPS-PRS Alliance and AIM.
Digital Music News reports that the MCPS-PRS Alliance has announced a trial podcasting licensing deal. Under the deal over ten million works have been made available.
The report claims podcasters will be charged 12 per cent of overall revenues for usage of MCPS-PRS Alliance works, or 1.5 pence per full track, whichever is greater. It's not clear if the fee is applied each time a podcast is downloaded, or if it's per transmission. The trial will last until December 31, 2006.
AIM Digital, the new media arm of the UK's Association of Independent Music (AIM), launched its global trial licence for podcasting in December 2005, enabling UK independent repertoire to be used in podcasts around the world.
