UK regulators plan a taxation blitz on eBay sales this Christmas.

A report claims UK taxation and customs authorities will be watching eBay this season in "an attempt to crack down on traders avoiding tax liabilities".

The report explains the taxmen will be checking seller feedback in order to find out who is making an income from selling goods, particularly electrical goods, through the service. They will be looking at sellers with more than 20 feedback entries as a starting point.

"Many innocent individuals may not realise that what they thought was a hobby is actually deemed a trade, and that potentially there will be tax, interest and penalties to pay," Jacqui Fleming, of tax consultancy Chiltern, told Namnews.
