The UK Unix User Group (UKUUG) has opened up for entries to its Open Source Award for 2004.

The annual award is given to recognize significant contributions to free and open-source software. It was instituted in order to encourage and foster UK developers and other contributors.

The judges – who include user group members, representatives from UK computer science departments and the Unix-using community, is ready to consider submissions in a number of forms, including articles, papers, software products and more.

The winner will get £500. This year, O'Reilly UK is also offering the winner a pass to the 2004 Open Source Convention with another £500 to cover travel and accommodation costs.

The closing date for submissions is April 2 2004.
