Apple has updated iPhoto, its Mac OS X-only digital-image management application, to version 1.1.

The update hasn’t yet been officially announced, nor is it available using OS X’s Software Update feature.

Changes include the facility to email photos using OS X’s Mail feature; brightness and contrast controls; and the ability to create albums automatically by dragging a folder of photos into the Photo Library list.

Other new features include the capacity to retain and display EXIF data; and direct-import (into iPhoto) from Photo or Picture CDs. This version of iPhoto also has the ability to set the desktop image/screensaver from within iPhoto.

The update is available for download, but, judging from its URL, this release is for North American English systems. Users may be advised to wait until the update is made available using the Software Update feature.

UPDATE: Since this story went live, Apple have removed the software from the servers.
