Wacom today announced its new Graphire 4 range of pen tablets and interactive displays.

Now in a silver, metallic design, Graphire4 is Wacom's affordable entry-level graphics tablet that lets image editors and home-movie makers edit images using a pen, rather than a mouse.

The new product succeeds Wacom's award-winning Graphire3 range. The tablet ships in either A6 or A5 sizes, with or without digital imaging software.

Four Graphire options

The range includes: the Graphire Classic (A6), Graphire Classic XL (A5), the Graphire Studio (A6) and the Graphire Studio XL (A5). The Studio and Studio XL versions include Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 and nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Standard.

Wacom has implemented new features in its entry-level graphics tablet. These include two freely programmable buttons (ExpressKeys), which are located at the top of the tablet. These can be set up to work with modifier keys such as Ctrl and Alt.

For the first time in a Graphire, the product offers a new scroll wheel to zoom in and out of images. It also offers a built-in pen compartment.

The pen has also been redesigned and is available in matching silver metallic burnish. It carries a grey rubber grip and now hosts two separate buttons, set as right and double-click by default. It also offers a pressure-sensitive digital eraser. The pen supports 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, is cordless and battery-free.

These units ship with two full versions of software including Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 (PC/Mac) and nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Standard (PC/Mac) (a plug-in for Photoshop with new image filters).

Graphire4 is PC and Mac compatible and runs on Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 or XP and Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher.

Graphire4 Classic costs £74.99, while Graphire4 Classic XL is priced at £149.99. Graphire4 Studio costs £109.99 and Graphire4 Studio XL costs £179.99. All prices include VAT.
