UK music download service Wippit has signed-up four of the largest independent labels.

Sanctuary, XL Recordings, Beggar's Group and Roiadrunner have joined the Wippit service, which offers songs in both Windows Media and MP3 formats.

Wippit CEO Paul Myers said: "These four labels are absolute gems that between them bring our customers such a wide-ranging selection of musical styles that it's hard to find something in all of them that you can't completely love."

The move means the service now offers such current acts as: The Libertines, The White Stripes, Slipknot, Pixies and Peaches.

Simon Wheeler of Beggars said: "We want to make our music available to music lovers through as many channels as we can, Wippit is another way for independent music fans to get great music legally."
