Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs grabbed an iPod-related headline this week, saying that developing a WiFi iPod would be a sensible move for Apple.

Reuters explains that Jacobs believes that developing a wireless iPod would help Apple see off competition from mobile phone manufacturers.

"It makes sense to me that they would see the phone as potential competition...To me having the wide area (wireless) connection is really a cool thing," he said, adding that he has no inside track as to whether such a device is planned.

Apple's supplier PortalPlayer recently revealed itself to be developing wireless technologies for media players, presumably including iPods.
