Wisconsin lawmakers are acting to oppose a so-called "iPod-tax", which demands a tax on digital downloads.

Cnet News.com reports that some states are refusing to apply this tax; but in Wisconsin, the local Governor is pushing the state to begin applying it. He faces opposition from Republicans in the legislature.

Local autrhorities in favour of the tax see it as important to ensure a level playing-field between online and offline retail purchases.

Wisconsin state presentative Scott Jensen opposes the move, saying: "I think it is unlikely that the governor's proposal for the iPod tax will make it though the Legislature."
