Alias|Wavefront has announced plans to bring Maya, its award-winning 3D animation and visual effects solution, to the Mac.

Maya will be ported to the Mac on the release of Mac OS X, in an OS X-native form. This was previewed at the Worldwide Developers Conference yesterday. Maya is currently available on Windows NT and Silicon Graphic’s IRIX platforms.

Alias|Wavefront said in a statement: “The addition of Mac OS X support validates the power of the new Apple operating system to support the most advanced 3D graphics application available today.”

Richard Kerris, director of Maya Technology at Alias talked of the overwhelming number of requests the company had received from the Mac community for Maya for the Mac.

Steve Jobs was exultant: “Maya for Mac OS X will be the premiere 3D application on the Mac.” He said.

Maya for Mac OS X will be released in early 2001. Pricing is unavailable.
