The International English version of QuarkXPress 5.0 has been released in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Africa.

Pre-orders are also now being taken for QuarkXPress 5.0 Passport, the multi-language version of QuarkXPress 5.0. This will be available in two weeks.

XPress 5.0 now supports print, Web, and PDF workflows, with users able to work with file formats including HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language), PDF (portable document format), and XML (Extensible Mark-up Language).

Quark president and CEO Fred Ebrahimi said: "We've been putting QuarkXPress 5.0 through extensive quality tests in Europe and in the United States, and are now ready to release it for use worldwide.

"We're confident that new features and enhancements will help the industry become more efficient and productive. QuarkXPress 5.0 is an important step towards helping publishers realize more cost savings by integrating layout and production for print, Web, and new media."

New features include Tables and Layers, as well as a revised, print interface, enhanced PDF support, contextual menus, and improved colour-management.

QuarkXPress 5.0 is available for both Classic (Mac OS 9.1) and Windows. The upgrade from 4.x to 5.0 costs £328; the upgrade from 3.x to 5.0 is £570. The suggested retail price for the stand-alone application is £1,095 (excluding VAT).
