Although Quark began shipping QuarkXPress 6.0 for Mac OS X in the US on Wednesday, the UK release has been delayed.

Quark communications manager Glen Turpin said: "Unfortunately we won't ship in Europe this week after all. We're not far off, though. It's in manufacturing.

"The software for Europe is finished, and is in manufacturing, so it can't be much of a delay."

At the time of writing Quark was unwilling to commit to a UK ship date.

The company originally intended to ship XPress 6.0 by July 31, although Quark last week said this date had been bought forward.

Company president and CEO Fred Ebrahimi was penitent when he announced the application last week: "The truth of the matter is we should have done this earlier. My apologies to all of you for being late."

A full version of XPress 6 will cost £1,095, but street prices are expected to be lower. XChange international is offering customers up to 15 per cent discounts off the normal upgrade price to customers who pre-order upgrades. Special pricing for XPress 6 upgrades is valid only until the 15th July.
