Fast and intelligent image retouching tool makes Mac migration
Anthropics has finally ported its popular image-enhancement product Portrait Professional 8 to the Mac.
Portrait Professional has been available to Windows users since mid-2006, and is widely used on the platform. The software quickly improves faces in digital images and requires no advanced skill on the part of the user.

Anthropics' CEO Andrew Berend observes: "Where in the past, it would have taken a highly skilled user several hours to produce a quality finished, digitally enhanced image, it is now possible within less than ten minutes. Portrait photographs are by far the most common images produced by amateurs and professionals and we are delighted to be able to offer an enhancement service that can be accessible to all – on both Windows and Mac."
Portrait Professional 8 has been developed specifically to cater for the needs of Mac users. According to the developer, the software has been "trained" with hundred of examples of human beauty and promises that the highest quality photo touch-up can be achieved by unskilled users in a few minutes.
By statistical analysis of hundreds of photographs of faces, the software has learned what features are attractive and unattractive in human faces, so, for any given portrait, the software actually creates custom controls specifically to enhance that particular face. The software contains over 80 beautifying controls to give the user fine control over the appearance of the face and hair.
The latest version of the software has been enhanced by further training in human appearance, particularly on the 3/4 views. In response to feedback from fashion photographers it also includes further shape beautification modes, such as neck lengthening.
Portrait Professional 8 also offers automatic hair recolouring, hair thickening and hair smoothing in the editing stage. It has similar enhancements for eyes and mouths. Iris colour, iris saturation, whiteness of the eye, pupil colour, and the sharpness and size of each eye can be individually controlled by sliders.
The software is available in two versions: Portrait Professional 8, the standard version which works on JPEG and TIFF files (£39.95), and Portrait Professional 8 Studio (£59.95), which can handle 16-bit Camera RAW files.
