Poser Pro 2010 review

Poser Pro 2010 is intended to bring the 3D figure-design solution into a CG production pipeline. To that end it ships with COLLADA import/export support and the PoserFusion plug-ins. These allow you to host Poser files directly in the 3D application, retaining all of their data.

Poser Pro 2010 ships with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the FireFly render engine. Benefits include support for indirect lighting with irradiance caching and global illumination effects. There are also new Tone Mapping controls for brightness and saturation levels in an image. Rigging has been improved and the new support for multiple falloff zones and a new capsule-shaped falloff zone improves joint rotations.

System revamps include OpenGL real-time scene preview of lights, but entering text into the new local content search field didn’t work too well. The library offers 1GB of new content. This includes eight new human figures, animals, poses, props, hair, sets, lights, and cameras.

OUR VERDICT

Poser Pro 2010 is now a full 64-bit application on Windows, so hopefully a similar speed bump for the Mac is not too far away. For now, if you work with Maya and Cinema 4D, or you don’t already have Poser 8, there’s plenty of improvement here for you to get excited about.
