Granimator for iPad review
Granimator™ for iPad from creative studio ustwo™ isn't your typical iTunes App Store app. Its billed as a sound based wallpaper creator, making the most of the iPad's extra inches, but in reality is much more fun. The sheer simple pleasure of tapping on a screen to create instant designer images, backed by a bizarre soundtrack last heard on the Banana Splits, should appeal to the inner child in us all. We dare say this is the app dogs, cats and household pets have been waiting for if you want to upload another funny animal meets iPad YouTube video online.
Granimator™ comes with a selection of seductive images, organised into packs, from which you can start the fun creating wallpapers. A choice of graphical elements - styles, shapes and backgrounds - comes as standard - including work from illustrator extraordinaire Jon Burgerman, Lafferdog, Rob Boyett aka Bobby Bobson, Jason Gregory, High 1™and Moving Brands. Additional packs from Airside, Buro Destruct, Pete Fowler, James Joyce and RexBox adds to a class package, but will set you back £1.19 each from the built-in Pack store. More themed Granimator™ packs should follow over the next year according to ustwo™.
Sadly there doesn't appear to be a way to mix up packs. If you select Jon Burgerman, for instance, you have to start from scratch, but all creations can be saved and shared via Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and a rather nice Granimator.com site. The app lets you touch, pinch, drag, select, edit and erase graphical elements, select shape size and backgrounds, adjust shape size and 'randomize' results. Even with the limited number of free packs supplied with Granimator™ users can create varied results as the dedicated Granimator will attest.
Granimator™ for iPad is a good wallpaper creator, great fun and just possibly a great stress buster. With a minimal learning curve, the app from ustwo™ should appeal to all ages. With more themed Granimator™ packs in the works it’s one novelty app that should have a long iTunes App Store shelf life.
