inMotion iMT630 review
We found the inMotion iMT630 to be ideal for slipping into a bag. At 32x3.8x13cm and weighing just 425g, its design and shape can be likened to a lady’s clutch bag. The black speaker has a glossy insert, available in red, black or teal. This features a power button, volume controls, and the ability to switch between docked devices and those connected to the speaker via the auxiliary port. Skipping through tracks and accessing the menus can be done using the remote.
The remote also offers an alternative way to adjust the volume and switching the power on or off, as well as three pre-set graphic equaliser modes. We loved that the remote control is magnetic and can be stored behind the flip out stand.
The iMT630 is compatible with all models of iPhone and iPod except the shuffle, and can be powered by the mains or used on the go with an internal rechargeable battery, which offers up to seven hours playback. When the speaker is connected to mains power it will charge an iPod or iPhone.
Dual 2in drivers ensure the sound is crisp and clear, even at full volume, and the speaker automatically mutes when a call comes through on a docked iPhone. The flip-out stand is sturdy and we love the fact the dock can be pushed in, leaving it flush to the speaker itself, ensuring it isn’t damaged during transportation.
The retractable dock and hide-away remote make the miniature iMT630 truly portable
We also enjoyed the free apps that iPhone and iPod touch users can download from the iTunes Store to enhance the features of the speaker. Music Mood, for example, allows users to customise the sound from the iMT630 through a graphic equaliser, while Alarm Rock provides an alarm clock.
If you’re after a portable iPod and iPhone speaker that offers clear, crisp sound, then the Altec Lansing inMotion iMT630 iPhone and iPod speaker is a good buy, as well as a stylish accessory.
