Leps World 2 for iPad and iPhone review
Leps World 2 is a sideways-scrolling platform adventure. As is usual with games of this ilk, there's a backstory. On a beautiful, sunny, day in the leprechaun village, Lep and his friends are enjoying the sun. Suddenly, the sky darkens, and lightning fills the sky. An evil wizard appears, who steals the Leprechaun's gold and kidnaps all the villagers except Lep who manages to escape. The wizard is planning to use the Leprechaun magic alongside his own to take over the world!
As you help Lep work through each level, he gains powerful abilities to help defeat the wizard. Along the way you'll come across all manner of enemies - snails, wasps, birds, porcupines - which you can mostly defeat by either jumping on or shooting acorns at. You collect more acorns to replenish those you've used along the way, but can only have a maximum of ten at any one time.
Each level has three pots of gold you can collect; which add to the score at the end. Let's face it, as you're playing the part of a Leprechaun it's a good idea to collect the pots of gold even though you don't strictly speaking have to.
Collect three clovers and you gain an extra life - which during the end of level 'boss' enemy fights will certainly come in useful.
You can jump/double jump to knock out the platforms above you, in turn knocking out the enemies on them. A lot of this seems similar to Super Mario World on the Nintendo; but with the addition at the start of each new world of a story board explaining what's gone on between each world. The storyboards are attractive; the story itself is simple enough but provides an entertaining backstory to what's going on within the game itself.
If you take Leps World 2 as it is - a sideways-scrolling, retro fuelled, platform game - you'll find it very easy to simply get lost. It's superb, it sounds great and looks amazing.
