Kensington KeyFolio Pro review
Kensington has tweaked its iPad case to create a version for iPad 2. The all-in-one approach offers a robust case that will certainly protect your iPad. The keyboard is fixed and has chiclet keys, which mirror the standard Apple wireless keyboard layout in most instances.
As a case and keyboard combination, the physical size of the keys is excellent and offers efficient and accurate typing at speed. You set up a Bluetooth connection via a large, easily reached button. You also get caps lock, charge and power LED indicators. An on/off switch next to the mini USB port allows power saving when not in use.
The iPad itself slides into a covering of ‘synthetic leather’ that feels like neoprene. The overall effect isn’t great, as it is rubbery to the touch, unlike other faux leather cases.
A nice touch is that the slipcase pivots so you can use your iPad in landscape or portrait modes with the keyboard, although we would have liked a slightly deeper angle for improved viewing when using the keyboard for longer periods of time.
Combining a protective case for your precious iPad 2 with a tactile keyboard, the KeyFolio Pro is efficient and functional, but without much style or luxury
Overall this iPad case and keyboard combo is adequate for most needs. The keyboard is large enough to type for extended periods. With a battery life that has a claimed 100 hours working time and 60 days on standby, you won’t be reaching for the power cable a great deal. It’s a shame the build quality isn’t better. If the case had been a high-quality faux leather, this combo would be classed as excellent.
