RingO All-in-One Pack for iPad 2 review
The RingO tablet-mounting system showcases the best and worst of industrial design. In the All-In-One Pack, you get four components: an iPad holder, a wall mount, a car mount and a table stand.
The sturdy, solid holder snaps on to your iPad and is comfortable to hold, adding little heft. The iPad 2 version works with Apple’s Smart Cover, and both the iPad and iPad 2 holders have openings for access to ports and buttons, leaving some exposed edges. The mount socket snaps onto other components, meaning you could buy extra holders and use a single wall mount for multiple tablets.
The components, however, are variable. The stand is dreadful – barely adjustable and it feels like you’ll snap it on removal. The car mount is far better: strong and durable, easy to fit, and with an adjustable neck. The wall mount is the simplest piece, with no angle adjustment, but it’s solid.
The eject mechanism is a bit awkward (you really need two hands, but must also cradle the iPad to stop it plummeting), but we had no worries about the iPad’s safety while it was on a wall.
There’s a lot to like about this system: it’s rugged and durable; most importantly, your iPad feels safe on the wall or in a car. However, the stand is terrible, feeling like a cheap afterthought (it’s available separately for an ambitious £17.41). It’s also expensive and the UK price compares poorly to the US price.
