KitCam for iPhone review

KitCam, from the creators of the worthy PhotoForge series, hasn't been around for long but it's already won rave reviews online and received a prestigious Apple Editors' Choice. KitCam lets users edit photos and video both live and at your leisure, adding a number of attractive and quirky effects while retaining the original image or footage. The collection of lenses, films and frames is impressive, offering a wealth  of possible variations, which will likely make it difficult to take a really bad picture. Non-destructive editing also means you can undo any effects you don't like and change any edits made or anything selected when the original photo was taken.

KitCam

What makes KitCam particularly special is the addition of a range of tools for taking, editing and fine-tuning your handy work, including manual controls that the makers suggest could rival your digital camera. These include the ability to compose a shot better with composition aids, stabiliser, face detection, multiple exposures, multi-shot and a fun time-lapse mode. Other features include the ability to easily adjust clarity, brightness, contrast, saturation, colour balance, levels, sharpness as well as the option to rotate and crop images.

 KitCam

For those who like sharing images, KitCam has support for Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox, Instagram and Tumblr and the option to auto archive your work via DropBox, Flickr and FTP. The photo app comes with the option of some cool but hardly essential In-App Purchases covering a small number of additional lenses, films and frames, which users can try before they buy. You can also further edit your images in PhotoForge, which compliments  KitCam well. GhostBird Software has already updated the KitCam, based on user feedback, with the ability to import your own photos for editing, which we feel is a great addition to an already excellent app.

OUR VERDICT

With a comprehensive and compelling range of features and effects, wrapped in a beautiful and intuitive interface, KitCam from GhostBird Software has set the standard for all photo apps. The ability to endlessly experiment within one app with editable lenses, films and frames, while preserving the original photo or video, brings the power to create and craft to all.
