Quake 4

The Mac conversion of Quake 4 has been a long time coming; if you’re a first-person shooter fan though, it’s been well worth the wait. The game has the highest production value of any first-person shooter we’ve seen since Doom 3 and terrific single-player gameplay. Unfortunately, the multiplayer modes left us a bit wanting.

Command & Conquer Generals Deluxe

Westwood Studio’s Command & Conquer real-time strategy series is regarded as one of the best of all time. As such it’s surprising that there have been just three Command & Conquer titles released on the Mac – the original, Command & Conquer Generals and the Zero Hour expansion pack. Aspyr Media has recently released Command & Conquer Generals: Deluxe Edition which brings together both of the C&C Generals titles in updated versions with all current patches.

Over the years our expectations of visual look, gameplay and multiplayer ability have evolved. For a long time, Call of Duty was the first-person shooter of choice; but with the release of its successor we’ll have to rethink that.
