It's so easy to create a passcode for your iPhone, have a complete mind block and then multiple attempts later get locked out your own device. Alternatively, you might have an old iPhone lurking in your drawer you want to give to a family member or friend, but simply cannot remember the passcode. Without the passcode, the phone is effectively redundant, so what do you do?

Don't despair as you can quickly download software to resolve these issues and give you back full access to your phone.

One such program is 4uKey by Tenorshare. The software will let you remove the passcode from your iPhone, including newer models which use 6-digit alphanumeric passcodes and even your Touch/Face ID. It's worth noting that you need to own your device. This software is designed to allow owners to unlock iOS devices which are effectively rendered unusable due to a forgotten passcode.

4uKey makes it easy for you to unlock your iOS device. Connect your iPhone as you normally would via a cable, 4uKey will then recognise your device and all you do after that is locate the ‘Remove the iPhone Passcode’ option and click ‘Start’. It's that simple.

The process that follows is that 4uKey will warn you that it will erase all the data on your device, iOS will be updated to the latest version and a reminder you need enough power to be able to complete the removal of the passcode and reset of your device. You will then be prompted to either specify where you have the latest iOS firmware or, alternatively, you can click to download it.

Once you’ve downloaded the firmware or specified its location all you have to do is click ‘Unlock Now’ and the phone or iOS device will start without the passcode. This process can take a while and after it has finished you can either set your device up as a brand-new device or restore it from the most recent backup if you created one previously.

There are, of course, other reasons why you might want to remove a passcode from your iPhone. You may have upgraded to a new device, but left your old phone in the box and forgotten the passcode, so you'll want to completely remove the data before you sell to another person.

Tenorshare 4uKey is available fon a trial basis and there are various subscription options including one device for one year at $49.95 (approximately £47 inc VAT).

4uKey does exactly what it advertises and will help you if you get in a pickle with iTunes or lose your passcode. The price is also reasonable it if you consider the replacement cost of your device, even older models.
