In October, Apple announced that it had finally found someone to fill the role of retail chief, after almost a year without one following the ousting of ex-retail boss John Browett in October 2012. Angela Ahrendts, former Burberry CEO, is now officially senior vice president of retail and online stores, and was added to Apple's executive list on 1 May 2014.
But who exactly is Angela Ahrendts? Read on to find out more about the new head of retail at Apple.
What Apple has said about Angela Ahrendts
In a company-wide memo sent out to Apple employees in October 2013, when the company announced that Ahrendts would be joining its leadership team, Apple CEO Tim Cook described Ahrendts as "an extraordinary leader," and "wicked smart."
Cook said that he has wanted one person to lead both the online and retail stores because he believes it will "better serve our customers."
"I had never met anyone whom I felt confident could lead both until I met Angela," he continued. "She shares our values and our focus on innovation. She places the same strong emphasis as we do on customer experience."
"Angela has shown herself to be an extraordinary leader throughout her career and has a proven track record," he added. "She led Burberry through a period of phenomenal growth with a focus on brand, culture, core values and the power of positive energy."
Now, as the only woman on Apple's leadership page, Ahrendts has her very own executive profile, situated directly next to Cook's profile.
"Angela Ahrendts is Apple's senior vide president of retail and online stores, reporting to CEO Tim Cook," the profile reads. "Angela is responsible for the operation and expansion of Apple retail and online stores, which have redefined the shopping experience for hundreds of millions of customers around the world. Apple retail stores set the standard for customer service with innovative features like the Genius Bar, personal setup and one-to-one personal training to help customers get the most out of their Apple products. "
Angela Ahrendts: career history
Apple's profile of Ahrendts goes on to talk about her impressive career history. The 53-year-old mum of three is most famous for her stint as Burberry's CEO from 2006 to 2014.
"Angela joined Apple from Burberry, where she served as CEO and led the company through a period of outstanding global growth," reads Apple's leadership page. "Prior to Burberry, she was executive vice president at Liz Claiborne Inc., and earlier in her career she served as president of Donna Karan International."
Ahrendts managed to increase the value of Burberry from £2 billion when she was first appointed as CEO to £7 billion before she left, and was believed to be the highest paid CEO in the UK, according to CNNMoney.
