Best MacBook Pro 2015 cases and bags

The MacBook Pro is still undoubtedly one of the finest portable laptops ever made (you can also read our review of the more recent MacBook Pro 2016). Nearly as slim and convenient to carry as its lesser-powered cousin Air, it will be prone to scuffs and dinks as it follows you around thanks to its portability. (If you do own an Air, we've rounded up the best cases for that as well).

Here are some of the best cases, bags and sleeves with which to save your MacBook Pro from certain death.

Most of the cases and bags we round up here are most suited to the MacBook Pros with Retina displays. That is, all those Pros of recent years without a disk drive, however some are suitable for all, so be sure to check before buying. We’ve included some for 13 and some for 15-inch variations of Apple’s sleek machine.

STM Grace Sleeve for MacBook 13in

Designed with women in mind, these bright and slender laptop sleeves are nice and minimalist for slipping your MacBook Pro into. Despite the marketing, the colours are great for men too, and can be picked up for a reasonable price on Amazon. You can also find the 15in version on Amazon for £24.95, or $39.95 if you're in the US.

STM is a great Australian company that specialises in bags and cases for tech, and have named this sleeve after Grace Hopper, a US Navy Admiral who helped to develop early programming language for computing.

Mujjo Sleeve for Macbook Pro

The Mujjo sleeve delivers style and protection.

The sleeve provides a snug fit for the 15-inch MacBook Pro and is handmade from a lightweight, soft and luxurious water-repellent felt that is complimented by a stylish full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather flap that securely fastens with a single alloy popper.

Inside the Mujjo there are two large compartments, one that securely holds your MacBook Pro and another that would allow you to store additional items such as documents, smartphone or a tablet. Mujjo has also stitched a small additional credit card sized pocket into the main compartment that could be used to hold business cards or slim storage devices.

The sleeve has an understated, contemporary design that is perfect for both business and personal use. Above all the Mujjo is light, well made and looks and feels like a premium accessory that will perfectly compliment your MacBook Pro.

Priced from €62.90/£60/US$75 (buy direct from Mujjo.com) the Mujjo isn’t cheap but it is a fantastic sleeve. It’s lightweight, feels well made and looks great. Above all, it provides the padding you need to keep your MacBook Pro safe and a water-repellent treatment that allows you to use it in all conditions.

We tested the black sleeve, using the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro (it is also compatible with the third-generation model) and it is also available for 12-inch and 13-inch MacBook devices in both black and tan.

Moshi Aerio MacBook Pro 15in Case

This high quality messenger back by Moshi holds any MacBook Pro up to 15in. Its premium design is evident from the lightweight, durable outer material to the strong elastic strap that alleviates shoulder pain.

As well as the MacBook space, there's space for all your books, other gadgets and lunch. Sorted.

Speck SeeThru MacBook Pro 13in Case

These cases from Speck for the MacBook Pro (with Retina Display) are great, as they protect your MacBook Pro while allowing for normal use of all its functions and ports, as well as being able to open and close it. It’s available in several colours.

The form fitting case snaps on snugly and fits flush, and also has non-slip rubber feet (just like the MacBook itself) so it wont go sliding around on a flat surface – perfect for long typing sessions. Be sure to pick the right one for your MacBook as Speck also still sells this case for the older, disk drive toting version.

The MacBook Pro 15in version is also available on Amazon for £42.96, or $39.99 if you're in the US

Twelve South BookBook for MacBook Pro 13in

The BookBook series from Twelve South makes cases for the iPhone and iPad as well as the MacBook, so you can leather bind all your Apple gadgets should you wish. It makes the MacBook slightly bulky, but if you love the look then chances are you won’t mind.

There’s also the argument that if you’re carrying around what people think is an old dusty tome in public then you’re less vulnerable to theft, which is perhaps true. What’s harder to accept is the high price, but if you want to protect your laptop with a hint of nostalgia for non-digital times, this is a good bet.

You can also find the 15in version on Amazon for £67.26. If you're in the US, the larger version is not available on Amazon, but you can buy it for $99 directly from Twelve South.

Woolnut leather sleeve for MacBook Pro

Woolnut is a great little company from Sweden that makes top quality leather goods for several models of MacBook. This fine black number will fit the Retina MacBook Pro models of 2013-2015 (the first models without an optical drive).

The fit is snug as you'd hope for and will no doubt weather the years well - provided your MacBook lasts that long. The leather is a lovely grain and the stitch detailing is subtle. The felt lining inside rounds off a top product.

Booq Saddle Pro

Maker of superior laptop bags Booq addresses the painful issue of over-packed bags with its latest Saddle Pro – a super-expandable laptop briefcase that is built for the well-equipped traveller. At £250/$295 it’s not cheap, but then this laptop bag is built for serious business.

The Saddle Pro oozes quality of design and engineering, and gives you that extra bit of  storage when you need it most.

The Booq Saddle Pro is compatible with 12in to 16.4in laptops, with plenty of storage capacity left for a tablet, smartphone, books, folders and water bottles (via neat zipped mesh side pockets). If you frequently carry around lots of documents and magazines you’ll love the easy-access compartment at the back. There are plenty of handy zipped pockets inside, too.

The Pro’s expandable zip adds another 3.5 litres of storage capacity, which won’t test those YKK zips too much. The only problem will be angry looks as you squeeze the bag into the overhead compartment on boarding the plane.

Whatever you cram into it the Saddle Pro is lightweight in itself, and feels extremely durable with its ballistic nylon exterior. It boasts oversized and rubberized zips for easy access to the pockets and compartments.

The leather handles give it a sense of luxury, and there’s also a detachable, comfortable shoulder strap. When you’re travelling with a suitcase the Saddle Pro easily riots most luggage trolley handles.

Targus Laptop Bag 15-15.6in

Targus makes some excellent bags at ridiculously good prices. You'll find this bag, specifically for 15 inch laptops like the larger MacBook Pro.

It's a very simple polyster number, with a zippered fold-out clamshell design that gives you room to carry a charger and other bits and pieces with ease.

Caseable MacBook Pro 13in Premium Sleeve

Caseable makes slick, premium cases for all manner of laptops and the MacBook Pro is no exception. The company cleverly lets artists join its ranks, so while the cases all come in similar designs, the possibilities are endless when it comes to what you want to put on yours.

There are hundreds to choose from (via the above links) but the great thing is you can also design your own very easily. Go get creative and protect your Pro with some of the best quality neoprene cases we've seen.

You can find cases for the MacBook Pro 15in on Caseable's website.

STM Radial Messenger Bag

This excellent quality STM messenger bag is designed to take up to a 15in MacBook Pro, so it's perfect for any 13in or 15in model from the last few years.

It uses the company's Slingtech protection, which suspends your laptop from the bottom of the bag to avoid damage when setting it down or if dropped. Water resistant and with tons of space for the day's stuff, it's a winner.

AmazonBasics 13.3in Laptop Sleeve

For those on a strict budget, Amazon’s Basics range is a no brainer. Good quality neoprene cases for your MacBook Pro are the order of the day, and a flap on the inside to make sure the zip doesn’t scratch your silver wonder machine.

You can also find the 15in version on Amazon for £9.99, or $11.49.

Sorted.

Inateck MacBook Pro 13in Case

Sleeves are a great way to carry around your MacBook, so here’s one more for you to consider. This Inateck envelope is fastened with a Velcro flap, but also comes with a complimentary pouch (fastened with strong elastic) to house a charger or mouse for example.

The lining is mould proof, if you think that’s a plus, and its felt lining stylishly absorbs shocks and scuffs.

The MacBook Pro 15in version can be found on Amazon for £15.99. This size is not available in the US, however.

Thule 15in Gauntlet Bag

If you want to pack up your tech into something that Arnie might not look out of place lugging around after Sarah Connor, then here is your bag. Available for both 13 and 15 inch MacBook Pro models, it has a rigid exterior that gives extreme protection to your prized computing possession.

You can carry by the handles suitcase-style, or with a fully adjustable and removable shoulder strap. You can use your laptop without removing it from the bag thanks to its hinge design, and houses every accessory you could possibly want to cart around.

The 13in version of this case is available on Amazon for £59.60 (reduced from £69.99), or $79.95 if you're in the US.
