Live Photos is a cool feature found on all iPhones since the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. These very short video clips add a certain Harry Potter-esque feel to your images and thanks to an update, you can also upload them to your Instagram Stories and even your Feed. The process is simple, requiring just your phone, Instagram account, and a recent live photo.

So if you want to bring a little life to your social media profile, just follow the steps below.

While the process of uploading a Live Photo is largely the same as uploading a regular photo on Instagram, there are a few key differences.

Converting your Live Photo

To create a shareable Live Photo you'll first need to launch the Instagram app, then from the top row of icons select the Your Story circle.

The camera will now open and if you swipe up from the bottom you should see a selection of images from the past 24 hours. Select the Live photo.

At the top of the screen you'll see four options. The cross on the left lets you cancel the upload, while the three icons on the right allow you to customise the image for Instagram. The smiley-faced square lets you add emojis, you can write on the image using the pen icon, while the Aa option is for text.

Once you're happy with the image and any additional art or comments you've added the last step is to press on the image to initiate the 3D-touch feature and see a preview of how the image will move. This is achieved by Instagram switching to Boomerang mode.

Posting the image

When you're ready you can either tap the Your Story option at the bottom of the screen (which will post it to everyone) or choose the arrow in the bottom right if you just want to send it to particular friends.

Once the image is up you can't actually edit it, so be sure that everything is as it should be before you post.

If for some reason you want to remove the post then tap the Your Story option, tap the three dots at the bottom of the image, then select Delete from the menu that appears. This is also where you can share the Boomerang on your Instagram feed and cash in on all those potential likes.
