Because the HomePod can only be set up for one person at a time you may decide to change the iPhone or iPad that is connected to the speaker - allowing you to access your Messages or Notes, or because you have an Apple Music subscription and your partner doesn’t.

There are two ways to reset the HomePod. The one you choose will depend if you have the iPhone or iPod you used to set the speaker up.
How to reset the HomePod without the iPhone you set it up with
If you need to reset a HomePod but don’t have access to the iPhone or iPad that was used during set up (perhaps you have decided to set the family HomePod up with your iPhone rather than your spouses, for example) here’s what you need to do:
- Unplug the HomePod.
- Plug the HomePod in again.
- Immediately press and hold the top of the HomePod - don’t delay or the HomePod will start up prior to the reset window.
- Keep pressing until you see a red flashing light and Siri speak. Siri will tell you that “Your HomePod is about to be reset, keep pressing until you hear three beeps”.
- When you hear the three beeps you can let go of the HomePod.

How to reset the HomePod using the iPhone you set it up with
If you need to reset a HomePod you can also use the iPhone or iPad you used to set it up with.
- Open the Home app on the iPhone or iPad you used to set up the HomePod.
- Press and hold on the HomePod icon in the Home app.
- Tap on Details.
- At the bottom of the Settings screen tap on Remove Accessory.
- Tap Remove to confirm you wish to remove it.
You will then be able to set the HomePod up again as per the guide linked to above.
