Apple may be closing in on a deal with Carphone Warehouse under which the latter firm will begin selling Macs in-store across the UK.

AppleInsider is claiming that Mac-related 'placeholder' items have appeared within the Carphone Warehouse internal computer system, prompting speculation on an such a deal.

The speculation continues to claim the deal to sell Macs in-store may be in place in time for this year's Christmas shopping period. A presence within Carphone Warehouse stores would massively increase Apple's footprint for the Mac at retail - it has 800 stores.

Carphone Warehouse recently purchased a stake in US high street electronics reseller, Best Buy, and is also Apple's high street partner for the iPhone from O2.

A representative from Carphone Warehouse declined to comment, saying the company doesn't comment on "rumour or speculation".
