Google, Apple, Wikipedia and YouTube and Starbucks are the top five global brands, an annual survey shows.

The latest annual BrandChannel survey puts Google at the head of the pack of the world's best-known brands. Apple takes second place, followed by YouTube, Wikipedia and then Starbucks, Reuters reports.

Apple took first place in the North American survey, followed by YouTube, Google, Starbucks and Wikipedia.

BrandChannel spoke with 3,625 branding professionals and students to assemble their votes on this year's list, asking: "Which brand had the most impact on our lives in 2006?".

MySpace took fifteenth place in the North America ratings, while Al Jazeera took the number nineteen slot.

The survey doesn't consider a brand's economic value.
