Apple has taken tenth position in IDC’s ranking of the top-10 worldwide server brands in the first quarter of 2007.

The company shipped 8,700 units, a growth of 73 per cent, on the previous quarter.

DigiTimes sources note that following Apple’s launch of an Xserve server adopting Intel Dual Core Xeon processors (Woodcrest) several enterprises started to adopt the Apple servers.

Worldwide server shipments declined 11 per cent compared to the previous quarter. This was mainly because second and third ranked Dell and IBM saw on-quarter drops of 3 per cent and 17 per cent respectively.

Lenovo and Langchao were among the top-10 worldwide server brands in the fourth quarter of 2006, but both have now slipped below 10th place.
