Apple last night launched its new-look .Mac webmail interface.

The whole look and feel of Apple's online mail service has been radically improved using the latest web technologies. It now reflects the look and feel of Apple's desktop email client, Mail.

All a user's messages remain available in the new system, and any existing mail folders remain available.

If you use .Mac mail you also get the chance to employ one of two different interface templates: three-pane and two-pane. The latter UI lets users view or compose a message in one window, while the three-pane view lets you view your list of messages with the selected message and compose new messages in a new window.

Additional features include:

- Drag-and-drop functionality
- A message pane
- Quick Reply
- Address Book integration
- Message previews
- Message flagging
- Keyboard shortcuts

.Mac mail works with the most recent versions of Safari and Firefox on a Mac, and Firefox and Internet Explorer on Windows.
