Apple has sent word that Ping, newly introduced with iTunes 10, has passed 1 million users in the first 48 hours since it launched on Wednesday at the company’s annual music themed event.
Ping, dubbed a new social network for music, lets users follow favourite artists, while friends can discover what music you currently like, are listening to and even downloading.
Amongst the Apple endorsed artists users can follow are Lady Gaga, Coldplay, U2, Jack Johnson and Yo-Yo Ma, sharing news, video updates and tour dates.
"One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping," said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services."As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing."
As well as Ping, iTunes 10 introduced a new look cleaner interface and blue iTunes icon, replacing the image of a CD.
