Apple may give in to user demands and introduce digital video recording within the Apple TV.

That at least is the conclusion AppleInsider has made as it considers a raft of recent Apple TV patent applications, which suggest the addition of such features in future.

The filings and associated images, originally submitted in October 2006, describe a system of menus for the navigation and selection of TV shows for live viewing and future recording.

Another patent puts forward information on a new more powerful remote control. This is a little like an iPod and carries storage so users can carry a month's worth of electronic programming data on the remote. They can read and navigate through this data using the remote, allowing them to programme shows to watch without using the TV screen.

Even if such features never reach the Apple TV, they do suggest the company is engaged in R&D to develop such solutions.
