Apple has released a design handbook for iPhone applications, making this available to developer members of its Developer Connection.
The iPhone Human Interface Guidelines explains key concepts developers should follow when they design applications for the iPhone.
"Currently developers create web applications for iPhone, not native applications. Therefore, this document focuses solely on the presentation of web applications and other web content on iPhone," the document explains.
It describes only those applications that run through the Safari web browser built-into the iPhone, detailing exact dimensions for graphical objects such as buttons and windows.
The document stresses AJAX, HTML and CSS as development applications and urges developers to maintain 'consistency' and remain attentive to web standards within their applications.
