Apple has updated the App Store in the iOS 6 beta, with the main change being a redesigned search result layout, and appears to be cracking down on copycat apps.
The iOS 6 App Store update, which was made available to developers on Thursday, reveals that Apple has given the App Store a redesign on both the iPad and iPhone. Search results are now displayed in a card-style interface, which shows the app’s icon, a screenshot of the app, the rating, and an install button that also shows the price.
The redesign could be a result of Apple’s acquisition of app search company Chomp in February.
While the interface provides the user with more detailed information about applications without needing to click on each one individually, Cult of Mac points out that users see far less apps on one screen, which could be a problem for apps with a lower rank.
Genius recommendations have been enabled in the iOS 6 beta’s App Store, and the purchased section has been added, which displays all apps that a user has previously downloaded using their Apple ID. Users can search for podcasts from within the App Store in iOS 6. Although these features are not new to iOS, this is the first time they have appeared in the iOS 6 beta.
Meanwhile, Apple has also begun cracking down on fake apps that copy the icons, and use similar names as popular applications, according to reports.
Developer Benjamin Mayo published a rejection letter received by an app maker from Apple, which indicates that Apple has changed its policy to try and keep fake apps out of the App Store.
The rejection letter reads: “We found that your app, and/or its metadata, contains content that could be misleading to users, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. Specifically, your app icon appears to be similar to the chart topping lists/to do app “Clear”. It would be appropriate to modify your app so that they don’t appear to be similar.”
