Apple has revised the terms of its One to One service to limit Data Migration to 60 days, and has also lengthened the MacBook bottom case replacement program to four years – a two-year extension. first highlighted the changes to Apple's One to One service policy, which now means customers will need to initiate the Data Migration service within 60 days of purchasing a One to One membership, a £79 program to give new Mac owners personal training sessions from Apple employees in the store.

Using Data Migration, customers can transfer their data from an older Mac or PC to their new Mac. With the previous terms, One to One customers were able to request Data Migration at any point during the year-long service term, but this has now been limited to 60 days, or around three months.

Apple declined to comment about the reasons behind its decision to limit the time frame for Data Migration, but transferring data can become more complicated if the process is carried out a long time after purchasing a new Mac, so it's likely that part of the reason for the new limit is to try and prevent these complications.


Meanwhile, Apple has quietly lengthened its worldwide MacBook Bottom Case Replacement Program, which enables customers experiencing a problem in which the non-slip rubber surface on their MacBook separates from the bottom case to get a replacement component for free.

Originally, Apple stated that Apple would replace the bottom case of affected MacBooks for two years from the date of purchase. The MacBooks affected shipped between October 2009 and April 2011, so the two-year window was about to expire.

Now, Apple's support page for the program reads: "This program covers affected MacBooks for four years from original purchase date. Apple will continue to evaluate the service data and will provide further extensions to this program as needed."

Apple offers three replacement process options, including in-store services or self-service kits.
