Avid's consumer product division Pinnacle Systems today launched two new USB TV tuner devices for the Mac.
The new ultra-portable Pinnacle TV for Mac Sticks turn any Mac into a full-featured TV receiver/recorder with remote control. They ship with Elgato's industry-leading EyeTV Lite software.
The USB 2.0 Pinnacle TV for Mac family comprises two models:
– Pinnacle TV for Mac DVB-T Stick (£59.99): this product allows European users to watch, time shift and record their favourite digital TV and radio (DVB-T) shows.
– Pinnacle TV for Mac Hybrid Stick (£89.99): this device delivers the same functionality as the DVB-T Stick but also enables reception of analogue television broadcasts. This product can act as a video-capture device.
The devices ship with an A/V adaptor cable that lets users import video from external sources such as a camcorder or VHS player — a one-stop shop for digitising existing video recordings.
Both devices connect to the Mac using a USB 2.0 port and ship with a remote control. They come with a mini-antenna and host a standard antenna input. Users can schedule recordings using the integrated electronic programme guide, saving shows in MPEG-2 format.
“Macs are famous for their eye-catching design and the cool features within the OS. Now Mac users can use Pinnacle products to further extend the capabilities of their computers and transform them into personal TVs and video recorders,” said Pinnacle Systems general manager and Avid vice president Jeff Hastings.
The Pinnacle TV for Mac Sticks will ship this month and be available directly from the company's website, major retailers and online shops.
