The BBC Trust has suspended its popular online-education service, BBC Jam, following complaints from commercial companies in the same industry.

Competitors have complained to the European Commission about the £150 million project.

BBC Jam is a selection of online services that are curriculum-connected. The services are designed to support schools across the UK.

The site received government approval in January 2003 and was freely available to anyone in the UK with an internet connection.

The service will be suspended from 20 March 2007, the BBC reports.
