Apple has released iPod touch software version 1.1.1, a 150MB update that's available through iTunes.

While Apple says the update only includes bug fixes, many outlets note that it improves a video-display problem that left some iPod touch units displaying dark images incorrectly.

Macworld US compared three separate iPod touch models both before and after installing the update. Before the update, the three models varied widely in display quality, with one displaying acceptable images, one capable of only mediocre image quality, and one with extremely poor image quality, including numerous instances of the "negative blacks" issue, in which certain dark image areas appear inverted.

After the update, image quality on all three models were roughly comparable, the report claims.
