Apple expects to introduce iTunes film rentals to the UK this year, the company has confirmed.

Apple's vice-president of worldwide product marketing for iPod and iPhone, Greg Joswiak, made the promise while speaking to T3 last night. He said: "Yeah, we're interested to get that up and running and expecting to bring them to the UK this year."

Joswiak refused to share any information as to any plans to launch a 3G model of the iPhone, declined to share any UK slaes data and confirmed owners of existing models could expect no free upgrade or rebate following the release of the 16GB iPhone yesterday.

The iPhone boss did put forward the notion that iPhone is "the most sophisticated platform for a mobile device," and pointed to the future raft of applications for the device as helping make it a compelling purchase.
