While no local network deal seems set in place, Japanese consumers appear willing, able, and ready to pick up an Apple iPhone.

A survey conducted by JR Tokai Express Research claims 85.2 per cent of respondents had heard of the iPhone, and of those, 51.7 per cent said they "might like to buy it" if the handset went on sale in Japan.

Just 19.3 per cent of those asked said they would not buy an iPhone while 29 per cent of those surveyed said they weren't sure if they'd buy one.
